Zhejiang University invested more than 3 billion Yuan and built the modern Zijingang Campus in the west of Hangzhou City. The campus is planned to cover an area of 5,856 mu (3,904,000 m2). The east campus started construction in September 2001 and covers an area of 3,192mu; the west campus is planned to cover an area of 5,500mu(3,666,666m2), and the planned total floor area is more than 1.2 million m2.

In 2010, the first Land energy tower heat pump system was put into use in Lantian to provide hot water for students dormitories of Zhejiang University; another 4 machine rooms were put into use successively in 2011 and 2012, and total 12 Land energy tower heat pump units were used.
